Our tours
Þórsmörk tour
5 days, 4 nights, 3 riding days.
This tour is our most comfy tour with showers every night, sauna for two nights and luxury dinners and breakfasts in the restaurant in Husadalur. Fits for both experienced riders and riders with less experience.
Day 1: Pick up in Reykjavik at BSI at 17.00. We drive to Heimaland where we have dinner together and go over the next few days.
Accommodation: Dormitory, sleepingbag, showers
Day 2: The day starts with a good breakfast in Heimaland. After breakfast we head to Skalakot, where the horses are found. Here, the guide will explain to everyone how to ride with a herd of loose running horses, just like we will do for the upcoming days. We start riding along the mountain of Eyjafjöll, passing Seljalandsfoss, and the second stop will be at the Old bridge of Markarfljót, or Gamla brúinn, as we call it in Icelandic and there we will have our lunch. After lunch we go into the mountain but with not so much elevation gain. The area on the way to Þórsmörk has beautiful scenery and you can really see how the eruption in Eyjafjallajökull in 2010 changed the landscape. The last part of the day the horses have to go over the river Krossá and we will drive the people over to Húsadalur where both people and horses sleep over the night.
Riding Distance: 42 km
Accommodation: Simple dormitory, sleepingbag, showers, sauna
Day 3: Today we do two dayrides without the loose running horses. We explore the beautiful landscape surrounding us in Þorsmörk and Almenigar (the highland above Þorsmörk). We ride in canyons, in forests, over mountaintops and through quite a few rivers. We will come back for lunch at the hut and keep exploring the unique landscape that Þorsmörk has to offer after lunch.
Riding Distance: 20 km
Accommodation: Simple dormitory, sleepingbag, showers, sauna
Day 4: This is our last riding day. We will ride more or less the same way back to Heimaland as we came. The view is quite different riding out of this big valley as it is coming in. Lunchstop will be at the old bridge again and after riding all the way back to skalakot where the horses will rest we drive back to heimaland for our last dinner together.
Riding Distance: 42 km
Accommodation: Heimaland simple dormitory (sleeping bag accommodation).
Day 5: Heimaland – BSI
After breakfast we head back to BSI station in Reykjavik where we will arrive around 12.00.

The lead rider is responsible for setting the pace and guiding the group, while the other riders assist in keeping the herd together.
Depending on the distance covered each day, there will be several horse changes throughout the ride.
