This route will take you through many different breathtaking mountain paths where you will see some of the most beautiful views, the Icelandic highland has to offer. From glaciers through lupin fields, crossing rivers and seeing volcanos.
Along the way, you will encounter spectacular sights:
We start riding along the mountain Eyafjöll, passing Seljalandsfoss. The route continues over the historic Gamla Brúin, the old Markarfljót bridge, once an important crossing for travelers. Passing through the striking lava fields of Hekla Volcano, riders can witness the raw power of Icelandic nature. The panoramic views from Hafrafjalland Tindfjallajökull offer stunning vistas of majestic glacial landscapes.

8 days, 7 nights, 6 riding days

The Around the Glaciers tour takes riders through some of Iceland’s most dramatic landscapes. The journey begins near the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, one of Iceland’s most famous natural attractions, where riders can admire its beauty before setting off into the Highlands. The route follows the Markarfljót River, crossing the Gamla Brúin bridge, a historical landmark once essential for travelers in the region.
As riders move deeper into the wilderness, they traverse the Mælifellssandur black sand desert, an otherworldly expanse shaped by volcanic activity and surrounded by glaciers. The journey continues past Hattfell Mountain, a striking peak that dominates the barren landscape. A highlight of the tour is the passage between Eyjafjallajökull and Tindfjallajökull, two majestic glaciers that create a breathtaking backdrop for the ride.
Further along, the tour enters the Eldgjá Canyon, the largest volcanic canyon in the world, offering riders a glimpse into Iceland’s powerful geological forces. The final stretch of the journey leads to Hólaskjól, a picturesque area where lush greenery contrasts sharply with the surrounding highland terrain. Here, riders can rest before heading back towards civilization, riding along the famous Reynisfjara beach to Dyrholey.

Landmannalaugar


9 days, 8 nights, 7 riding days

Embark on an unforgettable horseback riding adventure from the majestic Eyjafjöll mountains to the geothermal wonderland of Landmannalaugar. This tour takes you through stunning landscapes. Landmannalaugar is nestled in the heart of Iceland’s highlands, is a breathtakingly beautiful region renowned for its unique geological features and stunning landscapes. This area is characterized by vibrant rhyolite mountains that exhibit a spectrum of colors, including reds, yellows, greens, and blues—an effect created by volcanic activity.

What to expect

Duration
The daily riding distance ranges from 20 km to 60 km.

Accommodation
On the arrival and departure nights, you will stay at Heimaland, a community center offering dormitory-style accommodations with shared facilities.
During the tour in the highlands, overnight stays will be in mountain huts, where a sleeping bag is required. Please note that these huts offer limited access to warm water, cell phone service, and no electricity.

Riding with a Loose Herd
The lead rider is responsible for setting the pace and guiding the group, while the other riders assist in keeping the herd together.
Depending on the distance covered each day, there will be several horse changes throughout the ride. The herd consists of approximately 30 to 45 horses, ensuring that we can always find a suitable horse for you. All necessary tack, helmets, and saddles are provided, and rain gear will be available if needed.
A basic level of riding experience is required.

Group size
To ensure a truly personal and immersive journey, we keep our groups small – no more than 14 guests – allowing each rider to fully embrace the beauty of Iceland and create memories that will last a lifetime. Our minimum group size is 6 participants.

Pick-up and Drop-off Service
You will be picked up and dropped off at the BSÍ Bus terminal in Reykjavík. No car rental is required for this trip.

Meals
All meals are included, with freshly prepared traditional Icelandic dishes and barbecue. Vegetarian and vegan options are available upon request.

What to Bring
In addition to your personal belongings, please bring sturdy footwear and appropriate riding attire. Your luggage will be transported by car to the highland huts each evening, so it is important to pack light.
